College Counseling
College counseling is an important component of life at Choate. In a sense, college counseling begins as soon as a student enters the school. Advisers, teachers, and deans help each student choose an appropriately challenging class schedule and advise about athletics, extracurricular activities, and standardized tests - all of which can play parts in the college admission process.
Choate College Counselors
Our counselors are in regular contact with college admission offices, keeping up-to-date on admission trends and discussing individual students' strengths.
In its purest form the college search and application process is one of excitement, possibility and self-discovery for a student. Through assessing their own
- traits
- needs
- skills
- and interests
a young person has the opportunity to identify institutions and opportunities that match these traits.
During the counseling process students are enabled to create a well-balanced list of colleges and universities that offers suitable matches and to assemble a compelling application that accurately conveys their character, personality and strengths.
"Fit" is a core element in the process. Just getting into college is not the focus. Getting into the right school is. Through the work of Choate's College Counseling office, students are shown how to match their life goals with an institution that will support their journey of exploration and learning.
