International Study
To travel, to live, to study, to converse while immersed in a culture other than one’s own is one of the finest educational opportunities available to Choate Rosemary Hall students. Students who have taken advantage of such opportunities at Choate find they have fundamentally altered their understanding of the world and their place in it. To experience this in high school allows students to build upon, and broaden, their education while at Choate and throughout their college years, so that their lives will indeed be more full and their contributions to society more informed. I encourage every student to seriously consider making international study an integral part of his or her Choate Rosemary Hall experience.

Planning Ahead
Experience has shown that the fifth form year is the most advantageous time for students to participate in an international study program, although many prefer to go as sixth formers, and outstanding fourth formers also may be selected. New fifth formers may be eligible for an international program after the fall term of their first year. Interested students should consider this opportunity ahead of time, carefully selecting their courses for the fourth, fifth, and sixth form years so that an international term enhances their academic profile. Interested students should plan to complete a year of science (typically, physics), first-year algebra, and geometry before entering the fifth form. Students are eligible for an international program after they have successfully completed their second year of language study. More detailed information is available from the Registrar’s Office or program directors.
Students who wish to take biology and/or United States history the year they participate in an international study program should consult the department course policies in the Course Catalogue. New students who would like to keep their options open for an international study program should indicate this fact on the course preference sheet, provided by the Registrar’s Office.
Note: Except for round-trip airfare and incidental expenses, all costs are covered by the regular fees for tuition and board.
