A Message from the Director of Admission
Welcome! I am quite sure that the time you spend considering Choate is time well spent. With its long tradition of excellence and an incredibly warm and friendly environment, I think you will find Choate Rosemary Hall to be one of the most unique schools at which to be educated. While there are subtle ingredients that go into the mix for a great school, there are also a few essential ingredients I offer for your consideration. How these factors or "ingredients" work together help define a school's essence – not only its niche and distinctiveness – but also its "fit" for each individual considering the school.
What makes a school great or distinct? From my experiences at Choate Rosemary Hall and observations of other schools, I have developed a set of questions that get to the core of what makes a school great. Keep these in mind as you visit Choate and other schooling options. I think you will find that Choate's educational environment is unique – no other school offers such a range of opportunity in a diverse, supportive, and enthusiastic environment.
Here's what to look for:
- Sense of Community: Does the school create an environment in which its students feel integral and proud?
- Being Known: It has been said that an education can be measured by the extent a student is known. Are faculty committed to knowing the students, and does their effort extend beyond the classroom to the playing fields, stages and studios, and dormitories?
- Opportunity and Challenge: Does the school provide a broad range of options to give students the opportunity to find their passions? Are students pushed to the appropriate level to stretch learning, while keeping perspective and maintaining a healthy lifestyle?
- Diversity: Does the school reflect the world and provide opportunity for growing minds to truly understand different viewpoints as they develop and clarify their own?
- Inspiration: Does the school inspire its students to learn and develop? Do students wake up excited and eager to meet the day’s challenges?
We think that at Choate the answers to the above questions are a resounding “Yes!” Come see us in action. We are eager to get to know you, and we welcome each of you to get to know us.
