This year's Matriculation Ceremony was held on Monday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m., and welcomed 271 students from 35 states, the District of Columbia, and 28 countries. This year's Matriculation speaker was Edward F. Kelly '74, P '07, '12.
The Choate School tradition of "Signing the Register" at the beginning of the school year in more recent times has become the Matriculation Ceremony, where every entering student formally signs a statement pledging himself or herself to personal growth, integrity, self-discipline and caring for others. President John F. Kennedy '35 signed the register in 1931.
The statement ends: "Fully aware, therefore, of the import of what I am choosing today, I now take my place within this special and lasting fellowship; and with this signature I commit myself to the principles and values of Choate Rosemary Hall."
