Signature Programs

Many of our students choose to participate in one of our Signature Academic Programs. Each one is designed to give you a dedicated learning experience — an experience that builds on your interests and talents to foster intensely rewarding intellectual pursuit, and horizons that never stop expanding.

Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES)

Unique among American secondary schools, the AMES program offers students a working knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic. In addition to language studies, you’ll gain unique perspective on this fascinating region through guided study of the history, art, architecture of the classical Arab world, and the history and politics of today’s Middle East.

Arts Concentration

Our Arts Concentration program gives students with exceptional talent in the visual or performing arts the opportunity to develop their talents further through a deeply arts-infused and rigorous academic program. You’ll craft your own schedule to facilitate your artistic development, with specific concentrations in Music, Theatre, Visual Arts or Dance.

Capstone Program

Together with an adviser, you will chart a concentrated course of study that culminates in a final project during the Spring Term of your Sixth Form year. Past concentrations have included American Imperialism, China-US Relations, and Middle East Conflict resolution — but your creativity and curiosity will enable you to shape your own Capstone path.

Directed Study

Independent tutorials are available to advanced students who have completed the courses offered in the regular curriculum and who have demonstrated talent in a particular area.

Environmental Immersion Program

The Environmental Immersion Program at the Kohler Environmental Center is an intensive, yearlong, interdisciplinary program open to both juniors and seniors who have a passion for understanding and preserving our natural environment. You will explore courses in Literature and the Landscape, Environmental Ethics, Economics, and Policy, Photography, Biology, Ecology, and complete your own Independent Research Project.

Science Research Program

This intensive program offers motivated and independent science students the chance to step beyond the traditional classroom structure to explore their area of interest. Working under the guidance of a mentor scientist at a research facility during the summer of your junior year, you will engage in cutting-edge research at university laboratories.

Study Abroad

Our overseas study programs offer a unique opportunity to develop your curiosity, creativity, and your appetite for life and experience both at home, and abroad. You can participate in language immersion programs in China, France, Japan, Spain, Jordan, and even a classical studies program in Rome.
