Writing Workshops

2-Week Workshops

Session 1: June 24 – July 6
Session 2: July 8 – July 20

The Writing Workshops help students enrich their skills as readers, writers and critical thinkers. Once accepted, students are grouped into sections by age and ability, allowing them to receive instruction with age-appropriate curriculum, geared toward their specific interests.

Our proven programs, led by a variety of talented and experienced faculty, provide an opportunity for students to write and read in a supportive and intellectually-challenging environment.

The focus of the curriculum is on developing student mastery.

  • Students practice both creative and analytical writing and are challenged to incorporate higher-order thinking and skills.
  • By sharing their writing in a public setting they benefit from having their work read and critiqued by both teachers and peers.
  • Importantly, students concentrate on practicing the types of expository writing that they will encounter on standardized tests and in college applications.
  • They experiment with many different kinds of writing including personal narrative, dialog, poetry, short stories, and thesis papers.

Boarding students, grouped by age, live together (boys in one dorm, girls in another) to create a supportive, cohesive group in which students can produce their best writing. Social activities are planned for all students in conjunction with our similarly structured high school programs.

For application information, please see the How to Apply page.

Combining Programs

Writing Workshops can be combined with another 2-week course to create your own four-week program:
