Applications

What do we look for in students who apply to our Summer Programs? We look for a passion for learning, the enthusiasm and energy to challenge oneself in an academic and non-academic environment, and the commitment to accept those challenges.

Anyone who reads our catalog and visits our Web site realizes that we take learning seriously in the summer. But we also believe that much of the learning in the summer takes place outside of the classroom with conversations students have with their dorm advisers, extra help sessions with faculty members, chats with a teaching intern on an activity trip, or with friends at a Saturday night dance.

Be thoughtful about preparing your application materials. Please be honest and precise about the information you provide. Be certain to select your courses wisely. Make sure that these selections are your choices or choices you agree with.

Because enrollment is limited in all of our programs, we encourage the earliest possible completion and return of your application. Once we reach our enrollment limit, we will begin a waiting list. Admission is on a rolling basis.

Acceptance decisions are made within two weeks of receiving a completed application. We encourage you to apply as soon as you review our catalog, since courses fill quickly. A completed application (minus instruction sheet) includes:

  • Application Instructions
  • the application questionnaire, Part A or as a for printing
  • the Course Selection Form (if applying to COMPASS, FOCUS, Immersion courses, Math Workshops or Science Workshops) or as a for printing
  • personal essay - choose one of three topics; see instruction sheet for details
  • school recommendation (Part B )
  • current transcript (including at least one grading period from this 2007-2008 academic year)
  • two teacher recommendations - Part C and Part D (see instruction sheet for details)
  • one graded English paper (two papers/compositions/essays if applying to The Writing Project, Young Writers Workshop, Beginning Writers Workshop, English Language Institute (ELI), or FOCUS ELI programs)
  • a non-refundable $60 application fee - Check or money order in US dollars made payable to Choate Rosemary Hall (international families may choose to wire transfer funds)

The full application , as opposed to the parts listed above, is also available.

Incomplete applications will not be considered; therefore you may wish to call to confirm that we have received all your materials.

We look forward to getting to know you better through the application process, and hope that you will join us for an unforgettable summer experience!
