The Parents Fund
-
The primary role of the Parents Fund is to help bridge the gap between tuition and fees paid by families and the actual cost of a Choate education. The shortfall is substantial - the school spends nearly $54,000 to educate a single student, of which a per student average of only $29,000 is derived from tuition and fees. The remainder is provided by endowment income and gifts to the school from parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends.
As a component of the Annual Fund, donations to the Parents Fund are directed to areas such as academic programs, faculty, and financial aid initiatives, and the construction, renovation, and maintenance of the school's beautiful buildings and grounds. The Parents Fund immediately impacts each and every Choate sutdent in tangible ways - you need only to visit a classroom, an athletic practice or a student arts event to see your gifts at work. More importantly, the Parents Fund reduces the amount of endowment income drawn each year by supplementing the areas the endowment might otherwise have to support.
Our challenge for the future is to continue to offer our students forward-thinking academic initiatives in classrooms and labs equipped with the latest in technological advances, to offer arts programs that inspire and foster creativity and personal expression, and to provide athletic facilities designed to instill the spirit of teamwork and competition. Our partnership with parents is a critical component of the school's ability to meet those challenges while preserving the endowment so vital to the financial future of the school - and we value and deeply appreciate your participation and support.
