Whether you are serious about studying an instrument and learning about music in-depth or you are just curious, Choate's music program will expand your experience and nurture your talent and potential as a musician.
The music program offers a variety of courses in music history, theory, composition, performance, and music production. In addition, ensembles include:
- Symphony Orchestra
- Concert Orchestra
- Wind Ensemble
- Jazz Ensemble
- Jazz Combo
- Chamber Chorus
- Festival Chorus
- Student-directed a cappella groups and opportunities to just jam
The Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble perform masterworks from the classical repertoire spanning era’s from the 17th to the 21st century.
The Jazz Ensemble performs the music of Basie, Ellington, Monk, Mingus and various composers of swing and latin jazz.
Jazz Combo features student musicians engaged in performing standard jazz repertoire with a focus on improvisation and jazz harmony.
The Festival Chorus and Chamber Chorus repertoire is drawn from masterworks of the great choral composers and includes music of many cultures.
The chamber music program provides performance opportunities in trios, quartets, and quintets.
There are also opportunities to form student-directed instrumental ensembles, perform in student recitals, or focus on the recording arts and music production.

With concerts and recitals every term, and the potential to perform a solo recital if desired, there are many performing opportunities both on and off campus, affording tremendous opportunities for musical growth.
