Jocelyn Polansky '19 reached 1,000 points in her high school career yesterday evening, during the team's 66-38 home win over Williston Northampton School. In the 44-year history of Choate Rosemary Hall, Polansky is the 4th female basketball player, and 7th overall basketball player of any gender, to reach this milestone. The Wallingford native came into the game with 984 career points, hoping to pass the coveted number on her home court, to allow her family and friends to share in her moment.
With 5:04 remaining in the game, Polansky found herself unguarded with the ball in her hands, 25-feet from the basket. Noticing a clear lane in front of her, she took three dribbles to shorten the distance to the hoop and pulled up for a jump-shot just above the free-throw line. Polansky's teammates and coaches were anxious to celebrate with her, jumping to their feet as her 16th point of the game fell through the net.
In the stands to witness Polansky's big moment was the family of Claire Sullivan '04; the most recent female to secure her name on the 1,000-point banner. Claire, and John Papale '12, the most recent male 1,000-point scorer, have both reached out to congratulate and welcome Polansky into the 1,000-point club.
Jocelyn is a four year combo guard for the Choate basketball team who has been selected to the All-New England team for three consecutive seasons.
Polansky will continue her basketball career next year at Utah State.
