Jordan Obi ’20 Drafted by Reigning WNBA Champions

On Monday, April 13, 2026, Jordan Obi ’20 was selected by the Las Vegas Aces with the 44th pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.

“I was pleasantly surprised,” Obi told reporters after being drafted, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. “I had no clue. I wasn’t expecting it at all.”

Obi, a Hartford, Conn. native, came to Choate as a middle school student, spending time in Wallingford, Conn., during Choate Summer Programs before enrolling as a third former. Playing under coaches Aliya Cox and Donta Johnson, she was a two-time NEPSAC Class A All-Star, a 2017 NEPSAC Class A Girls' Basketball Tournament finalist, and the ninth player in program history to score more than 1,000 points.

"I feel like it's an incredible accomplishment, and I think it's a big deal I get to be a part of a group of people who have also reached this goal," Obi told The Choate News after scoring her 1,000th point against Ethel Walker in 2020, joining an exclusive group of scorers that includes her former teammates Sam Gallo ’19 and Jocelyn Polansky ’19.

After graduating from Choate Rosemary Hall and finishing her time with the famed New York Gauchos, Obi took her talents to the University of Pennsylvania. Playing for longtime coach Mike McLaughlin, she earned Second Team All-Ivy League Honors twice, and First Team All-Ivy League honors in her senior year, while averaging 13.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. In her final year, she also joined the university's 1,000-point scorers club, becoming the 25th player in program history to reach that milestone.

Having played in Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania, Obi elected to finish her collegiate career down south in Lexington, Ky. With the Wildcats, she put up nine points and six rebounds per game as she and her teammates played their way into the Sweet Sixteen before falling to the Final Four-bound Texas Longhorns in the 2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The 6’1 guard from the University of Kentucky will have the opportunity to continue hooping as she joins the reigning WNBA champions and four-time WNBA MVP A'ja Wilson, who seek their fourth title in five years. As training camp begins on April 19, she will have the opportunity to battle and learn from veteran, championship-winning guards Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray.

“Jordan is a versatile guard/forward whose skillset can translate into the WNBA,” Las Vegas Aces President Nikki Fargas said. “She is a high motor player who gives maximum effort every night and sets the tone with her energy and hustle.”

Obi will bring her energy and hustle to the floor as the Aces begin the 2026 season with a preseason matchup against the Japanese National Team on Sunday, April 26.
