Varsity Football Opens Season Ranked Number One

Choate Rosemary Hall Head Coach LJ Spinnato and the Wild Boars haven't kicked off their regular-season campaign yet, but they're already the talk of the town.

On Monday, September 14, On3's Rivals released its rankings of the top 25 high school football teams in Connecticut and guess what? The Wild Boars are ranked number one. After finishing 8-2 and beating the Phillips Exeter Big Red 44-42 in a thrilling bowl game, the blue and gold open the season atop the rankings, followed by the St. Thomas More School, Avon Old Farms, the Brunswick School, and New Canaan High School.

"The Wild Boars return a number of Division I, Power 4 prospects, including IOL Luke Tenn, OT Liam Peters, IOL Jacob Reed and CB Breydon Evans. Additionally, senior athlete JT Gannon also returns for his [final] year, after putting up 961 yards and ten touchdowns at wide receiver last season, also taking snaps at defensive back," Liam Reynolds of Rivals writes.

Led by Gannon ’27 and his co-captains, Jack Brooder ’27, Cole Cormier ’27 and Brady Rossacci ’27, the Choate Rosemary Hall Wild Boars will begin their regular season on the road at Phelps Stadium in New Hampshire. Last season, Choate opened with a two-point loss to Exeter before ousting the Big Red in a 44-42 shootout to close the season. Now, they'll have an opportunity to complete the trilogy with a win in the season opener.

The Wild Boars will return home next week for another showdown against the Big Red, but this time, from the Lawrenceville School. Later this season, Choate will go toe-to-toe with familiar foes from across New England, including #3 Avon Old Farms, #10 Loomis Chaffee, #21 Kent, #11 Taft, six-time NEPSAC Class A Bowl participants Dexter, Hotchkiss, and Deerfield.
