At Choate, learning doesn’t stop at 3 p.m.

At Choate, learning doesn’t stop at 3 p.m., and it extends well beyond the classroom. When we live and learn together, moments to teach and learn happen all the time, for our students and teachers alike. For the minds that are always open, our doors are, too.

A "Day" in the Life

Day Student Experience

A commute to campus doesn’t mean you’re left out of life at Choate. The end of the academic day isn’t the end of your day—with a variety of clubs, activities, and sports to choose from, our doors stay open to our day students long after your last class.

With student-focused spaces like St. John Hall and the Lanphier Café, day students can remain on campus until curfew, joining friends and classmates for meals, games, study sessions, and a chance to kick back and have fun once the day is done.

Weekend activities and overnights on campus are open to you, making Choate your true home away from home.

All A-board

Boarding Student Experience

Our boarding experience offers more than traditional education—it's a holistic journey of personal growth and community immersion. Here, learning extends far beyond textbooks, creating an environment where academic excellence and personal development go hand in hand. Living here means being a member of a 24/7 community, embracing differences, and adapting to new experiences and perspectives.

Dorm Structure

Our residential spaces offer specialized housing for Third Form, all-gender, and Senior/Postgraduate students, supported by dedicated residential life teams. Fourth and Fifth Formers enjoy two consecutive years in the same dormitory, fostering deep community connections and personal growth.

House Mentors

Adults and peers provide guidance and support, helping younger students navigate their journey toward independence in a safe environment.

“As a freshman, I was able to gain time management skills early on due to things such as study hours and lights out. I was able to acquire a steady daily schedule, easily adjust to the fast-paced life at Choate, and balance my academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities. I balance my academics and social life at Choate by participating in clubs, events, and gatherings with friends, while continuing to focus on my studies.” —Amanda '24
