Student Activities

Biology Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to give students opportunities to explore various fields of biology. Since Choate offers biology courses in fifth form year (for most students), this club would help students, particularly under-formers, to pursue their interests in biology in a fun and educational manner. Students will also engage in activities not offered in classrooms, such as discussing and debating about recent developments in biology and hosting guest speakers and volunteering events

Choate Programming Union

Choate Programming Union is a student-led organization aiming to improve access to Computer Science education and raise general interest of the subject on Choate's campus. We hope to emphasize collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving through games, lectures, and projects within our club or in collaboration with other institutions.

Physics Club

The purpose of the Physics Club is to enhance the attendees' understanding of physics. Physics Club aims to investigate any topic in physics which come up as the subject of a member's interest, going more in depth than in standard classes (simply because we are not stuck to a year-long agenda) and/or entering topics that those students have not/will not cover in a physics class. Physics Club is also more than willing to host debates and discussions between students regarding the more up-in-the-air aspect of physics (e.g. the black hole information paradox, string theory, etc.).

Psychology Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to facilitate the learning of psychology. This club will organize activities that will foster interest in psychology through discussions, videos, movies, and experiments.

Community Service Club

The purpose of the Community Service Club (CSC) shall be to provide Choate students with ample opportunities to demonstrate leadership, community engagement, and service for others in and around Wallingford. The CSC gives Choate students who are interested in impacting the community opportunities to work with children, animals, veterans, established community partnerships and organizations such as the American Red Cross and adaptive programs through the Wallingford Parks and Recreation Department, and the Spanish Community of Wallingford while establishing a valuable connection between Choate Rosemary Hall and the greater Wallingford community. CSC members will also work together to coordinate collections for local organizations throughout the holiday seasons and beyond in times of crisis and need. Lastly, the CSC members will partner with the Community Service Advisory to support the school’s annual Community Service and Sustainability Day.

Environmental Action Coalition

The purpose of this organization shall be to raise sustainable and environmental awareness. We focus on connecting the Wallingford area with different environmental issues on both a local and global scale as well as addressing the community’s individual carbon footprint. We provide students agency, skills, and experience to bring about legislative change in the Wallingford community and beyond.

Modern Agriculture Club

This club is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepared members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.

Africanah

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a supportive, safe and familiar environment for African students to connect with other Africans. Furthermore, it shall serve as a platform to properly educate the Choate community on the dynamic culture and diversity of the African continent, in which members shall discuss topics ranging from African politics, cuisine, literature and traditions. This club seeks to deconstruct any misconceptions or stereotypes about the continent or its people, as well as to celebrate Africa, its people and its culture.

Amnesty International

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide the opportunity for Choate students to protest human rights violations around the world by writing letters and emails to political leaders. With an affiliation to Amnesty International, we will assist our members in becoming aware of injustices, and then provide them with a method of advocacy that is direct and proven to be effective.

Asian Student Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to raise respect and awareness towards Asian culture through discussion, activities, and campus events.

Black Student Alliance

The purpose of the Choate Afro-Latinx Student Alliance is to provide a safe and welcoming community that allows for the open exchange of ideas among a diverse group of people. The club strives to support various backgrounds and promote a sense of racial unity and harmony within the Choate community. Through weekly discussions and school wide events, we aim to create an atmosphere where all students can openly and honestly express their feelings and concerns about issues affecting our lives.

Caribbean Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to establish a forum for students who identify as being Caribbean or of Caribbean descent to connect and to facilitate discussion around intersectionality. The Caribbean Club aims to create a space where Choate students of Caribbean descent can come together to discuss and celebrate Caribbean identity and topics through discussions, music, food and shared experiences.

Chinese Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to establish a base for Chinese students as well as spread Chinese culture to the other members of the Choate community.

Choate for Women

Our club aims to promote understanding and awareness of women’s conditions and issues through inclusive discussions of and educational resources about modern feminism. We encourage inclusivity by working to highlight topics related to the intersection of feminism with other political, social, economic, and cultural issues.

Choate Korea Friendship Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to give both Korean and non-Korean students the opportunity to experience Korean culture.

Choate South Asian Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to: Share and impart South Asian culture in the mainstream Choate culture, and hold events related to South Asian celebrations and activities.

Girl Up Choate

Girl Up Choate is dedicated to improving the lives of adolescents who face challenges such as violence, poverty, lack of education, and health issues. Through not only fundraising, but also advocacy, education, and service, Girl Up supports girls from all over the world focusing on countries such as Guatemala, Ethiopia, India, Liberia, Malawi, and Uganda. Our primary goal is to develop leadership skills among our members and educate the Choate community, while also supporting girls who don't have the resources we are fortunate enough to have through advocacy.

Hispanic-Latine Forum

The purpose of this organization shall be to share Hispanic and Latinx culture to the Choate Rosemary Hall community through engaging discussions, traditional Latin and Latin-Caribbean food, and Latin music. This club shall also serve as a safe, inclusive environment for all who identify as Hispanic or Latinx and their allies. HLF should provide the tools necessary, through informative club meetings and events, to empower Hispanics and their allies in the Choate community so that they can effectively increase awareness on campus about Hispanic-Latinx culture, and overall, uplift the voice of the Hispanic-Latinx community, both at Choate and beyond.

Japanese Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to share with the study body and community about Japanese culture through hosting events and meetings. We want to share the unique Japanese culture with the Choate community through educational and recreational activities. We will also collaborate with other clubs foster understanding of the intersectionality between the cultures as well.

Love Your Locs

Love Your Locs strives to promote enthusiasm about discussing the topics of curly hair in people of color. This is a unique club where members can relate to and find value in their natural hair as well as form friendships. Love Your Locs wants to benefit the community around us by organizing service events to collect essential hair products for underprivileged communities.

Middle Eastern North Africa Club 

The purpose of this organization shall be to increase community (student body, faculty, staff) awareness and grow curiosity about the Middle East and foster an atmosphere of understanding and appreciation for the Arabic Language and Middle Eastern studies.

Mixed Heritage Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to establish a forum for students who identify as being of mixed heritage to connect and to facilitate discussion around intersectionality. Individuals who identify as being of mixed heritage have different experiences and perspectives, and the Mixed Heritage Association intends to explore the unique identity development of mixed heritage individuals.

Neurodivergent Club

The purpose of this club shall be to provide a safe space for neurodivergent and neurotypical people alike to discuss neurodivergent issues, promote disability rights health, and advocate for anti-ableist policies.

Students Advocating Gender Equality

The mission of SAGE is to organize and moderate conversations about gender identity and its implications both at Choate and abroad.

Thai Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote Thai culture and values to the Choate community and serve as a space for Thai students to connect. Thai festivals and activities will expose students to Thai culture

WONDER

WONDER focuses on the empowerment and understanding of women and their healthcare rights. With the direct communications and support of Planned Parenthood, WONDER hopes to impact individuals within the Choate Rosemary Hall Community and in our global community. Our club works as a platform for discussion of women’s health care and reproductive rights, and gives students opportunities to take action through fundraising, volunteering, and public speaking.

Body Project

The purpose of this organization shall be to ensure a body positive community on Choate campus and within the Choate community and focus on spreading awareness on issues relating to body image through meaningful discussions and activities.

Choate Public Health

The mission of the Organization shall be to raise public health awareness on campus with a well-researched and designed magazine.

Lorem Ipsum

The purpose of this organization shall be to introduce to the Choate community the art of satirical writing. We plan to accomplish this by publishing a series of satirical articles inspired by events at Choate and beyond. Satire is a balanced art which seeks through subtle humor to both celebrate and investigate the fixtures of the world around us; with the creation of Lorem Ipsum*, we seek to bring these themes of celebration and investigation to the wider Choate Rosemary Hall community.

SciTECH

The purpose of this organization shall be to inform the readers of ideas that will transform the future; encourage scientific curiosity both within and beyond the Choate community; showcase research conducted by Choate students, faculty, and alumni; and garner attention from the public.

The Artist

The purpose of this organization shall be devotion to the intersections between the arts, current events, and culture.

The Choate Inquiry

The purpose of this organization shall be devotion to the intersections between the arts, current events, and culture.

The Currency

The purpose of this organization shall be to educate the Choate community about politics, economics, business, and finance and serve as a medium for students to express their opinions on a wide range of issues through publishing well-researched articles. The publication will strive to foster intellectual curiosity throughout campus.

The Lit

The purpose of this organization shall be to create, share, and foster an appreciation for student generated creative writing, photography, and artwork. This organization shall be dedicated to its constituents, continuously inspiring them and encouraging them to explore beyond what may previously have considered themselves able to do. This organization will work to showcase student work through a variety of mediums throughout the school year and hold all-school periodic events to join together all members of the Choate community in the spirit of creative writing, photography, and art.

Voices Magazine

The purpose of this organization shall be to supply a space for LGBTQ+ Choate students to share their voices with the Choate community on a regular basis. Rather than focusing on fostering conversations between existing members of the LGBTQ+ community at Choate, this publication aims to spark conversation, thought, and awareness about the LGBTQ+ experience in the greater, non-LGBTQ+ Choate community.

Interact

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide service and leadership opportunities in the local community to high school students at Choate Rosemary Hall. While human interaction is a priority in the service projects of Interact, the club will help the local Rotary Club with fundraising and other side-projects as well. Interact will organize at least one project every year, and will always have an ongoing project for members to participate in.

Red Cross

Guided by the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross and its mission to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies, the American Red Cross Club of Choate Rosemary Hall will learn, practice and exemplify humanitarian values through youth service projects and partnerships with other community groups.

Choate Young Democrats

The purpose of this organization shall be to: Support and help elect Democratic candidates for public office; widen and increase the interest and knowledge of Choate students in government and international relations; develop Choate students for positions of leadership; increase the role of underrepresented people in our party, governments, and society.

Choate Young Republicans

The main purpose of this organization shall be to provide a forum for conservative thought on campus. CYR hopes to foster an environment in which an open political discourse can occur between different elements of the Republican Party, thereby enabling like-minded people to come together in search of genuine policy solutions to our nation’s problems.

March for Our Lives

The March for Our Lives Choate chapter is dedicated to promoting discussion, education, and action about common sense gun reform. The club works in tandem with both March for Our Lives National as well as the state representatives for March for Our Lives Connecticut. These goals will be achieved through special events such as voter registration drives, awareness campaigns, and letter-writing drives to the representatives of the student body as well as through weekly meeting in which different topics surrounding gun violence will be discussed. In addition to focusing on gun reform, the club will also help members gain familiarity with organizing techniques that can be applied to other social justice issues.

BoarPen

Boar Pen is focused on increasing student body attendance at sporting events and school performances through the organization of spirit activities, themes, and spreading Wild Boar pride.

Car Club

The purpose of this organization is to enhance members' knowledge of the engineering behind cars and the components in them, to discuss motorsports and new technologies in the car industry, and to think of solutions to problems within the car industry. Automotive Appreciation hopes to foster a curiosity in its members regarding cars and motorsport and find like-minded car enthusiasts in a fun and informative way.

Chess Club

The purpose of this organization shall be:

• to spread the interest in Chess throughout the Choate campus;
• to give people who have a strong commitment and interest an opportunity to participate in chess tournaments to further develop their skills;
• to promote the success of Choate Chess Team in local and National competitions.

Through weekly meetings, people will learn about and improve in not only the opening strategies of Chess, the middle game and the end game, but also learn more about chess history (players, openings, etc.)."

Choate Aerospace Association

Our club wishes to increase interest in aerospace and bring a wealth of knowledge about it to the Choate student population. Included in this education will be a variety of renowned guest speakers, opportunities to learn about potential careers in aerospace, and field experiments relating to aerospace. We will do our best to connect Choate students with the aerospace field and industry while keeping our club meetings interesting and engaging.

Choate Dungeons and Dragons Club

Choate Dungeons and Dragons Club seeks to provide the opportunity to students from all walks of life to participate in the world's greatest roleplaying game. Through fantasy storytelling and role-play, the Club strives to be a unique outlet for creativity for its members. By circumventing the need for players to individually purchase expensive materials, the Club hopes to empower students for whom this may have been a significant obstacle to try out Dungeons and Dragons in a safe space. Choate Dungeons and Dragons Club aims to foster in members of the Choate Rosemary Hall community a love for the game, and the camaraderie it spawns, that they will carry with them far beyond the Club.

Choate Finance and Investment Club

The mission of the Finance and Investment Club is to support the development of future financial professionals not only in their field, but in the Choate community at large. Through activities such as presentations by guest speakers, investing challenges, and building Choate’s own investment portfolio, students are given the opportunity to learn about various career paths and about personal finance, all while developing financial literacy.

Choate Integral Alliance

The purpose of this club shall be to provide a space for students to explore and cultivate contemplative practices from a variety of traditions, and to hold conversations on current issues featuring viewpoints from all across the political spectrum. Through this integral approach, we hope to serve as a model for healthy discourse in the Choate community.

Choate Maker Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to: provide members and guests alike with a friendly introductory and in-depth viewing of Choate’s i.d. Lab and all the materials, tools, and multidisciplinary skills it encompasses. inspire short and long term projects and offer events that utilize the resources in the i.d. Lab. provide technological, artistic, and engineering advice and assistance to all members when needed.

Choate Mock Trial

The purpose of this organization shall be: “To explore in a low-stress, supportive, and co-operative environment all the intricacies of the American judicial system. Through a fun and interactive curriculum focusing on public speaking, case studies, and short assignments, the Mock Trial Club hopes to familiarize its members with lower court proceedings in the United States while providing an opportunity to improve public speaking, critical thinking, and writing skills.

In addition to club meetings, Choate’s Mock Trial Club strives to provide a real-world Mock Trial experience by attending Mock Trial competitions, allowing members to practice skills garnered during meetings at an actual, competitive event with prospective lawyers from other schools. Setting out on its journey, Mock Trial’s main goal is to instill in its members a deep appreciation of how justice is achieved in the United States, how the law is not always infallible, and how the judicial system has the capacity and urgency to amend or strike unjust laws.”

Choate Music Through Technology

The purpose of this organization shall be to: A. Foster a welcoming community where students can explore the fusion of music and STEM, B. Design and develop musical instruments which will be used to provide musical performances for the community both internally and externally from Choate, C. Provide students with the opportunity and resources to explore instrument development and the science of music, D. Assist the music department and external organizations or educational programs with instrument parts, accessories, supplies, and other similar needs.

Choate Quiz Bowl!

Choate quiz bowl!’s mission is to establish an organized base for competition in regional and national quiz bowl circuits and advance a community of trivia enthusiasts and curious thinkers towards developing a broad, diverse knowledge base.

Choate Self Defense

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a safe location for students to learn and practice self-defense techniques, as well as discuss relative issues on the topic of sexual misconduct and violence.

Choate Women in Business 

To bring a group of girls together who share an interest in entrepreneurship, business and leadership. To provide opportunities for Choate women to be mentored and guided by successful female leaders in the business world. To learn about what it takes to start and grow a successful business. To discuss the gender division in various business industries.

Choate's American Sign Language Learners

The purpose of this club was founded to provide ASL and deaf cultural learning opportunities to members of the Choate community. We will strive to create an inclusive area where we learn the basics of American Sign Language to help communicate with others in the future. The club will also have meetings where we read about allyship to the deaf and hard-of-hearing community and the different experiences those members encounter.

Classics Club

The purpose of this organization shall be To foster a love of the Classical studies across Choate — tailoring especially to the Latin and Greek students at Choate now but open to everyone with our far-reaching discussions about mythology and culture.

CRH Grilling

CRH Grilling shall deliver community events, peer-to-peer camaraderie, and good food to all of Choate. We want to foster an organization which brings the community together through grilling. CRH Grilling intends to rekindle the traditions of old boarding school events before the era of social media and technology. We strive to facilitate events run by students, where friendships are made, quality burgers and other edible delights are shared, and memories are forever. CRH Grilling also extends beyond the Choate community, as an organization dedicated to raising funds for charities affiliated with our club leaders or other groups.

DECA 

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a space for students with interest in finance, hospitality, marketing, and finance to prepare and hone their skills to emerge as successful leaders and entrepreneurs in their respective fields.

Ethics Bowl

The Choate Rosemary Hall Ethics Bowl club promotes respectful, supportive, and rigorous discussion of ethics among our members. Each two to six-person team discusses and prepares a critical responses to ethical case studies. Each team's arguments are presented and debated at regional and national competitions against other high schools. Unlike other debate competitions, there is little emphasis on rhetoric and research in the Ethics Bowl. Rather, the goal is insightful ethical analysis with clear and coherent justification. Judged on the basis of the clarity of the presentation, avoidance of ethically irrelevant matters, recognition and consideration of alternative ethical perspectives and focus on the central ethical aspects of the case, the competition requires club members not only to master ethical analysis and argumentation, but also to cultivate skills of presentation and debate.

GirlTech

GirlTech strives to close the gender gap in technology and other STEM fields, which keeps growing larger every single day, one girl at a time. GirlTech was founded on the belief that computing skills are a critical path to security and prosperity in today's job market. We're building the largest pipeline of future female engineers in the United States.

Global Education Issues Forum

The purpose of this organization shall be to let students have the opportunity to learn about the different kinds of national education systems worldwide and identify advantages and disadvantages of those systems through presentations, speakers, and discussions/discourse.

Linguistics Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote interest in and provide opportunities for the learning of linguistics through the study and comparison of languages, and through fun activities including cultural experiences. The Linguistics Club will show students how linguistics can offer guidance in a wide variety of Choate courses, such as those in language, history, and science. The club will also provide practice sessions for students who wish to participate in the North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO).

Listen Up

The purpose of this organization shall be to encourage students to broaden their musical interests and horizons, while obtaining a deeper meaning of lyrics and titles of songs and albums. This club would act as a sort of “book club” for music. The club will meet every two weeks to discuss the album decided the previous week and choose a new one.

Medical Interest Club

The mission of the Medical Interest Club is to foster an interest in medicine and medical sciences in the Choate community, allow Choate students to interact with real medical professionals, broaden knowledge in medical topics and provide a method for which students can improve their presentation and research skills.

Sociology & Anthropology Society

The purpose of this club shall be to provide a space where students can delve into the studies of anthropology and sociology. Members will discuss the history and features of the human experience, including the behaviors and cultures of the various living communities of the world, whether they be rural, urban, or in between. Members will engage in a variety of activities that range from presentations, Socratic seminars, and interactive activities (field studies, research projects) which seek to explore the communities both within and outside of Choate.

Students Engaging in Philosophy

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide students with an outlet to engage in abstract, thought-provoking discourse about philosophy. SEP encourages students to look at the world from a different lens and "zoom out" of what is going on right in front of them, gathering new outlooks and knowledge along the way. In essence, SEP is a way to escape reality, while simultaneously reflecting on all that makes reality the way it is.

Style at Choate

As Style at Choate, our mission is to discuss how the clothes we choose affect global issues, reflect our identities, and empower the wearer. We plan to collaborate with other organizations on campus, using fashion to spread awareness. Through our platform we hope to boost confidence and positivity by celebrating the style of all students.

The Food Network

The purpose of this club shall be to provide a space for everyone to cook/bake the foods they are interested in and/or value in their lives.

The Moth

The purpose of this organization shall be to eliminate social boundaries within the Choate community by creating a forum for storytelling and vulnerability. Modeled after The Moth platform, we hope to expand the Choate storytelling community by providing themes, bringing in speakers, hosting story slams, and creating a safe space where everyone feels comfortable enough to share their experiences. As a club, we believe that stories ground us– we pledge to champion these narratives and, in turn, tell the stories that we all need to hear.

The Ukulele Club

Choate’s fast-paced culture can make it difficult for students, faculty, and staff to find time to unwind. Through the Ukulele Club, we hope to foster a stress-free, welcoming environment where anyone, regardless of their musical abilities, can play the ukulele. As the club is rebuilt, we plan to host jam sessions, ukulele-building activities, faculty-kid ukulele classes, and performances. For novice musicians, there are few clubs on campus which create an audition-free, warm musical community. Through the power of this beautiful instrument and our community, we will bring stress-relief, a new hobby, and new friends to our club members.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

The purpose of this organization shall be to raise funds for awareness of the status of international children's rights and hopes to inform the Choate community of the violations of human rights that take place daily around the globe. The club engages in volunteering within the Choate community by hosting fundraisers and hanging informational posters. At its meetings, discussion centers on the inalienable rights of all children.

Women Student-Athlete Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide a platform for its members to discuss shared experiences and issues, and to increase the support of women’s sports programs on campus. The Women Student-Athlete Association is a fellowship of female identifying student-athletes. WSAA will be the first and only club of its kind on campus that actively targets and lifts up a segment of the student body which makes a meaningful contribution to the culture of excellence at Choate. The club will address challenges universally affecting female-identifying student-athletes, and will actively promote all women’s sports on campus in order to increase spectatorship at all games and broader support in our community.

Art Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote student interest in visual arts.

Bellacanto

The Choate A Cappella Groups (Bellacanto, Whimawehs, Maiyeros, Lilith, and Melatones) are a subdivision of the Choate Choral and Vocal Program. In this context, their purpose is to provide opportunities for students to sing repertoire of their own choice, to get experience arranging, leading ensembles, and preparing for performances independently, and to organize and execute community service projects. As with all groups and individuals within the CRH community, a cappella singers and their leaders are expected to uphold our community values of integrity, fidelity, caring, sensitivity, inclusivity, and supportiveness at all times. 

Choate Film Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to achieve higher levels of appreciation and knowledge of film making, film history, and cinematic culture in the Choate community by showing and promoting discussion of films, as well as to serve as a resource for students interested in participating in the production of films.

Choate Musicians Association

The purpose of this organization shall be to endorse the growth of a musical community at Choate Rosemary Hall.

Choate Taps!

The purpose of this organization shall be to educate, teach, and foster an appreciation for all forms of dance — specifically tap dance — as well as all other art forms. This organization shall be dedicated to its constituents, continuously inspiring them and encouraging them to explore beyond what they think they can do.

Choate Theatre Co.

The mission of Choate Theatre Co. is to create a safe and welcoming environment for Choate students to explore all aspects of the theatre. Choate Theatre Co. should provide club members with the resources and opportunities to explore the art of acting, while also feeling comfortable throughout the learning process. This includes conducting acting exercises and conversations about theatre during club meetings, holding regular studio sessions for students to workshop and receive advice on current theatrical projects, and hosting club events throughout the year where Choate students can broaden their understanding of a particular style of theatre by attending masterclasses in certain areas of theatre. Choate Theatre Co. will also keep members up to date on any positions open to work in the technical aspect of theatre. Hopefully, with the skills and work done in Choate Theatre Co., students will be prepared and enthusiastic to participate in productions on campus (eg. main stage, gelb, fringe festival, etc.). Choate Theatre Co. members will hopefully be able to apply their newfound knowledge while they are at Choate and beyond.

Dance Company

The mission of Dance Company shall be to provide students with the opportunity to express themselves creatively through dance and choreography. Student members of Dance Company work in collaboration with others and advisors to improve their art both artistically and technically. Students will be able to explore multiple styles of dance and movement in workshop, rehearsal, and performance settings.

Hip Hop Club

The mission of this club shall be to integrate Hip-Hop culture into life at Choate Rosemary Hall through dance and music and also to bring a different form of art into our culture.

Lilith

The Choate A Cappella Groups (Bellacanto, Whimawehs, Maiyeros, Lilith, and Melatones) are a subdivision of the Choate Choral and Vocal Program. In this context, their purpose is to provide opportunities for students to sing repertoire of their own choice, to get experience arranging, leading ensembles, and preparing for performances independently, and to organize and execute community service projects. As with all groups and individuals within the CRH community, a cappella singers and their leaders are expected to uphold our community values of integrity, fidelity, caring, sensitivity, inclusivity, and supportiveness at all times.

Melatones

The purpose of this organization shall be to introduce a multitude of genres that many students may not have been exposed to before. We also want to give back to people beyond the Choate campus. By doing so, we hope to create a safe and empathetic environment so no matter where you come from, you will always feel a part of something bigger than yourself. We encompass every aspect of different.

Photography Club

The purpose of this organization shall be to give students the opportunity to take photos and increase their photography skills.

Step Squad

Step Squad exists to provide entertainment for not only the Choate Rosemary Hall community, but also the Wallingford Community and other prep schools. It serves to introduce the art of step to the Choate and Wallingford community. As a step squad member, it is my duty to be an example to the rest of the school by upholding the name of Choate and adhering to all of the rules and regulations of the school.

SYNK Dance Team

We are a dance and performance-based club who will be producing dance covers of Korean Pop Culture (K-pop). The final product of this club would both be an on-stage performance and a cinematography/filmed performance. KPOP can be best described as a music genre and a dance style that focuses on transformation, synchronization, and visuals. The technical dance style encompasses Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary. The production aspect comes in when the club prepares for a performance with set, props, and costumes. Each KPOP piece has a protruding theme and we hope to represent that through the dance, stagecraft, and costumes. SYNK will rehearse once a week, and prepare 2 different, fully executed dance performances per academic year. This club will aim to perform at Prep rally (fall term) and spring concert (spring term). This club is open to everyone, dancers, non-dancers, and Kpop fans are all welcomed. However, auditions will be held for those aiming to be in the group of performing dancers

Whimawehs

The Choate A Cappella Groups (Bellacanto, Whimawehs, Maiyeros, Lilith, and Melatones) are a subdivision of the Choate Choral and Vocal Program. In this context, their purpose is to provide opportunities for students to sing repertoire of their own choice, to get experience arranging, leading ensembles, and preparing for performances independently, and to organize and execute community service projects. Choate Model United Nations 

In Model UN, students act as delegates to simulate the UN General Assembly. By participating, students become better global citizens as they solve problems pertaining to peace and security through collaboration and cooperative resolution of conflict. Delegate train in student-led pods and then compete in weekend and one-day conferences from the perspective of a specific country where they meet hundreds of other high-schoolers and learn first-hand the arts of debate, negotiation, and consensus.

Choate Debate Team

The purpose of Debate shall be to prepare students to attend debate tournaments within DANEIS and other debate leagues, improve the critical thinking and public speaking abilities of team members, and foster a gracious environment for educating team members in methods of productive discourse.

Choate Robotics Team

The Robotics Team at Choate Rosemary Hall was founded with the goal of educating interested, motivated, and committed students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The Team also uses robotics to teach students important life skills such as self-confidence, innovation, and teamwork.

The purpose of the Math Team is to challenge attendees with advanced topics from competition and higher-level mathematics.

RISE, which stands for Responsibility, Intellect, Sisterhood, and Empowerment, aims to: ▪ create a close, supportive community in which womyn of color— both students and faculty—can form strong bonds and meaningful relationships with one another; ▪ foster a sense of unity and empowerment as we approach our collective and individual challenges and successes; ▪ create a safe, brave space for womyn of color from diverse backgrounds (i.e ethnicity, religious affiliation, sexuality, socio- economic status, etc.) to share their experiences; ▪ ensure that womyn of color are recognized and celebrated for their contributions to Choate’s greater community; ▪ support the community at large through community service activities beyond the confines of the Choate campus; ▪ create a sense of sisterhood among womyn of color on campus; ▪ ensure the mental and emotional well-being of Choate’s womyn of color; and ▪ encourage and support the academic, professional, and social development of womyn of color at Choate and in the community at large.

Hillel

The purpose of this organization shall be to provide an opportunity for students of any faith to come together to celebrate Jewish holidays and participate in other activities related to Judaism and the Jewish community.

Muslim Student Association

The Muslim Students Association (MSA) at Choate provides Muslim and Non-Muslim students the opportunity to come together in a supportive spiritual environment and seeks to educate and raise awareness about Islam within the Choate and Wallingford community. All students and Choate community members are welcome to MSA activities and events. We recognize that students come from different backgrounds and are at varied levels in their own faith, and we welcome all.

 

 

Assessment Team

The Assessment Team is a group of fifth and sixth form students to whom anyone can go when concerned about a friend who may be experiencing problems or difficulties that put them at risk. Information is kept confidential and interventions generally result in counseling. If the team receives information that warrants a meeting, an adult member of the team will contact the student to address their needs.

Peer Educators are a trained group of fifth and sixth form student leaders who work to further health and wellness education in the Choate community. Peer Educators serve as campus leaders; students may approach them for advice and resources. Peer Educators must understand and maintain confidentiality, as well as uphold school rules.

Spectrum

The purpose of this organization is to directly support sexual minorities both within the Choate Rosemary Hall community and within our global community and back their personal development of their own sexual orientation and gender identity. Additionally, we strive to encourage inclusive constructive discussion about sexual health and sexual respect that address and condone all forms of intimacy between consenting individuals who are fully conscious of their consequences. We aspire to serve as catalysts for our communities’ evolution in regard to sexual orientation and gender identity from repulsion or acceptance to support or appreciation. This organization also serves as a springboard for promoting full and complete acceptance for sexual minorities, a forum for discussion of issues pertaining to sexual orientation and gender identity, and a framework for education on these topics.

Student Committee on Programming and Engagement

SCOPE is a committee of students responsible for planning, implementing, and promoting events, as well as providing advocacy and resources to improve the quality of club life at Choate Rosemary Hall. SCOPE recognizes the various aspects of student life through its three distinct branches: Engagement, Marketing, and Events. SCOPE enhances the student experience by providing inclusive and engaging activities and events for the community.

Student Council

The Choate Rosemary Hall Student Council shall be the representative voice of the student body, working to present a collective opinion to express the concerns of the student body to the administration and the views of the administration to the students.
