At school meeting on May 7, Director of Community Service Melissa Koomson presented the 2019 John Kirby Simon '79 Awards to four students who have made great contributions to our local and global communities through service to others, and who continue to exemplify a commitment to service. The awards were presented to one individual from each form.
This year's recipients are:
- Edie Conekin-Tooze '19, of New York, N.Y., a dedicated and engaged leader who celebrates the arts in her work with two extracurricular programs - the Spanish Community of Wallingford's Teach Music Program and In Music We Trust, a music therapy program for adults;
- Anjali Mangla '20, of Cheshire, Conn., a member of the Interact Reading Buddies Library Program, and Teach Wallingford, an after school tutoring program at Moses Y. Beach Elementary School;
- Ula Lucas '21 of New Haven, Conn., a volunteer for Loaves and Fishes, the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, and the ARSC Walk for Autism; and
- Claire Fu '22 of Hong Kong, an active member of the Teach Music Program and an online tutor for children in rural China.
