During March break, two Choate Rosemary Hall faculty members presented at the 2018 NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) Annual Conference, this year held in Atlanta, Georgia. The overarching theme of the conference was leadership.
Mb Duckett Ireland, English teacher and Chair of the Diversity Education Committee at Choate, presented on the topic: "Supporting Transgender Students Supports All Students," with co-presenters Alex Myers and Joanne Lembo, of Phillips Exeter Academy. The session explored a common language and understanding of gender-expansive identities, the basics of performing a school gender audit, and shared best practices.
Presenting on the topic of the "Millennial Workforce" was Roney Eford, Director of Athletics. Eford's session examined the extent to which independent schools are well-positioned to attract millennial workers to the teaching and coaching professions and what more schools can do to attract this emerging workforce.
