On Wednesday, April 29, 2020 the New York Arabic Teachers' Council (NYATC) will host their next Webinar, in partnership with Choate Rosemary Hall. The Council provides a forum for Arabic teachers to network, collaborate, and share innovative approaches to teaching with the goal of strengthening and professionalizing the field of Arabic language education. It is made possible by the generous support of Qatar Foundation International.
The topic of tomorrow's Webinar is "Expanding Horizons through Literature," presented by Laila Familiar, Ph.D., of New York University, Abu Dhabi. Dr. Familiar will lead the discussion on the place of Arabic literature in the classroom, inviting participants to explore different forms of integrating literature into the Arabic classroom.
Laila Familiar is Senior Lecturer of Arabic at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is the editor of two abridged Arabic novels for learners of Arabic (Sayyidi wa Habibi & Saaq al-Bambuu). Dr. Familiar is project manager of Khallina, an open source website that helps teachers and learners of Arabic explore aspects of Arab culture. It includes a rich collection of lesson plans and resources that teachers of Arabic can readily incorporate into their curricula. She is also an instructional coach.
