Festival of Lessons & Carols - December 16

On Sunday, December 16, at 5:00 pm, Lessons & Carols—the annual re-telling of the Christmas story through readings and song—will be held at the Seymour St. John Chapel on the campus of Choate Rosemary Hall.

Conceived in the late 19th century, it was adapted for use in 1918 by Dean Eric Milner-White in King's College Chapel, Cambridge. He created the service in the wake of his experience as an army chaplain in World War I.

The Festival of Lessons & Carols was first performed in the Choate Chapel in 1963, with the Rosemary Hall Choir participating in this inaugural event. The Choir traveled from Greenwich to perform. A holiday tradition that began with two separate schools continues today.

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and townspeople are invited to enjoy familiar carols, performances by Choate's choirs and bell-ringers, and readings by members of the Choate community. Rev. Ally Brundige, Director of Spiritual Life at Choate, will deliver the homily.
