This year's matriculation ceremony was held on Monday, October 19. Head of School Dr. Alex D. Curtis welcomed new students outside Seymour St. John Chapel. The ceremony was delayed from Convocation earlier this September to allow for a later return to campus and a safe social distance gathering after the lifted quarantine. Matriculation signing took place on campus with a recorded ceremony shared with the community.
Lined up on six-foot markers, Dr. Curtis welcomed several of the 267 new students individually, omitting the traditional handshake for a masked smile, before inviting them to sign the Register. Upon signing, students pledge their commitment to the principles and values of Choate Rosemary Hall, vowing themselves to personal growth, integrity, self-discipline and compassion for others.
In the ceremonial video shared with the community this week, current students address new students with pre-recorded messages. Head Prefect, Esther An '21 shared advice from her home across the nation, emphasizing the significance of preserving our connections and maintaining excitement for the friendships to come. Shane Baldwin '21 also added a message to all students, acknowledging the courage and resilience of the community.
