20th Pratt-Packard Declamation Contest

Adrienne Chacon '22 of Long Island, NY won first place in the 20th annual school wide Pratt-Packard Declamation Contest for her speech, "The Black Monolith".

Congratulations to finalists Julian Hurley '22, Simone Johnson '23, and Kenadi Waymire '22.

The contest honors two Choate teachers who were at the center of the School's public speaking tradition: E. Stanley Pratt, a Choate dean and public speaking and drama teacher, who taught at Choate from 1921 to 1960, and the late H. Jeremy Packard '55, former head of the History Department who revived the tradition of declamation at school in the late 1970s.

The contest is underwritten by Charles Krause III '51, whose generous gift has supported the teaching and study of public speaking as well as the expansion of the School's debate program.
