The Choate Sailing Team captured the 2018 CT State Championship title on Saturday in a fleet of 18 schools competing at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. Choate posted a combined score of 72 to secure the win with a 15 point advantage over second place finisher Brunswick. Over the course of a beautiful day of racing on the Thames River, Tommy Styron '20 and Tagan Farrell '20 won the A Division in Z420s with a total score of 21 points (14 points ahead of second). Along the way, Tommy and Tagan had seven top 3 finishes in eight races sailed, including two first place bullets. Sailing FJs in the B Division, co-captains Joseph Coyne '19 and Ariel Zhang '18 finished 6th out of 18 with a total of 51 points and six top 5 finishes in 8 races. Also on hand and lending support for Choate were Maddie Simms '19 and Alex Hakim '19. This is the second CT State Championship win for Choate Sailing, with the first coming four years ago in 2014. The team now looks immediately ahead to the Herreshoff Women's Championship series which begins with the qualifying round at Hotchkiss on Sunday, April 29th.
