He earned his spot by attending the Football University Top Gun Showcase over the summer. While there he entered into the punt off tournament, competing against the top high school punters in the country. After various rounds of competition he advanced to the final where his opposing player was at the time the #1 ranked national high school punter. He won the tournament in the sixth of seven rounds kicking a 60 yd punt with the hang time to edge out his competitor. With this victory he earned the #1 spot as well as a position on the West Team for the All-American Bowl.
Will stated that he "has dreamed of this moment for 10 years," acknowledging that with the support from his parents, Bill and Carolyn Powers, and his Choate Rosemary Hall coaches, teammates, and community he was able to accomplish this dream. LJ Spinnato, head coach of Choate Football, stated that Will is a "game changer on the football field; he is a talented kicker who can not only kick far but is brilliant and creative in terms of ball placement." Will hails from Los Angeles, California, and came to Choate Rosemary Hall from Rumsey Hall School. During his freshman year he decided to focus on tennis and did not play football. With some help from now teammates and Coach Spinnato, Will joined the JV football team his sophomore year as a punter and advanced to punt for the varsity level his junior year. Now as a senior he helps in all kicking facets; kickoff, punting, and field goal kicking.
In Choate football's 118-year history Will is the first player to receive the honor of playing in the All-American Bowl.
