2022 John Kirby Simon '79 Awards Presented

At school meeting on May 17, Director of Community Service Melissa Koomson presented the 2022 John Kirby Simon '79 Awards to four students who have made great contributions to our local and global communities through service to others, and who continue to exemplify a commitment to service. The awards were presented to one individual from each form.

This year's recipients are:

  • Arjun Singh ’22 of Farmington, Conn., a steadfast caring leader who committed his summers to the Farmington Suzuki Strings Camp, where he fostered a love for the arts and helped the children improve their skills, paying forward the same guidance he received as a student at the same camp.
  • Joy An '23, of Seattle, Wash., a passionate and dedicated student who worked in partnership with Catholic Community Services, Issaquah Meals Services, and Knowledge4Kids, organizing book drives and participating in Zoom lessons on topics from STEM to writing and beyond.
  • Ava Sklar ’24 of Houston, Texas, an enthusiastic and personable Gold Key member who regularly supports children in her hometown through Hester House, which aims to “empower, build, and sustain the community through youth development, senior services, social services, and workforce development.” She also partners with Kids Meals, an organization that addresses food insecurity for children too young to attend school and thus receive free meals.
  • Amelia Sipkin ’25 of Rye, N.Y., a dedicated and hardworking student and positive presence on campus who partnered with Samaritans, a non-profit organization that works to prevent suicide and support those who have lost someone to suicide.
