At the 132nd Commencement Exercises on Sunday, May 29, Head of School Alex D. Curtis and the Board of Trustees of Choate Rosemary Hall bestowed diplomas and certificates to the senior class of 231 graduates.
Commencement remarks to the Class of 2022 were delivered by President of the Sixth Form Ryan Lee, who spoke to his peers about the enduring bonds forged during his time at Choate. “I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for our class and what our class has in store for the world,” he said.
Abby Lu, Student Council President introduced professional athlete Lisa Leslie, who gave the Class of 2022 commencement address. Leslie is a three-time WNBA MVP, two-time WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, and inductee into both the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In her remarks, Leslie spoke to students about the importance of young people chasing after their goals, balancing passion with planning. “Everybody has a choice,” she said, emphasizing that the path to success will always have moments of struggle, self-doubt, and sacrifice. “You have the opportunity to be whatever it is you want to be, but you have to have the courage to go after it.”
In his valedictory remarks, Dr. Curtis, celebrated the Class of 2022’s tenacity, resilience, and commitment to authenticity. He encouraged them to be their best, authentic selves, to find joy every day, and to use their integrity to make the world a better place. “Integrity, respect and compassion must be part of your authenticity,” he said.
Friends and family from across the globe joined the celebration in person and via livestream. A recording of the ceremony can be found on the Commencement webpage. Congratulations, Class of 2022!
