World Cup Spotlight: Jordan Obi ’20 Represents Nigeria in Berlin

If you're a fan of the WNBA, you may have noticed that no games are being played today, tomorrow, or even the next day. Why? The 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup kicked off in Berlin, Germany. From September 4 through September 13, 16 nations will meet on the hardwood at Uber Arena and Max-Schmeling-Halle to battle for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup crown. Fans from around the world will watch stars like the Atlanta Dream's Angel Reese, the Minnesota Lynx's Napheesa Collier, the Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark, and the New York Liberty's Breanna Stewart, among others, put it all on the line for Team USA, but one name may particularly stand out for fans of the gold and blue — Jordan Obi ’20.

Jordan will join Nigeria's D'Tigress as they vie for gold in Germany. Ranked eighth in the world after winning their fifth consecutive AfroBasket Championship, Nigeria's roster is anchored by Portland Fire Forward Amy Okonkwo, forward Murjanatu Musa, and center Victoria Macaulay, with support from rising talent like Obi and Elizabeth Balogun of the New York Liberty.

In their opening game, Nigeria lost a hard-fought 99-81 battle against South Korea. Despite the loss, Jordan showed up big on the world's stage, scoring six points on 75% shooting while grabbing three rebounds and dishing an assist. She and her teammates will look to bounce back from their tournament-opening loss with a win against Hungary on Saturday, September 5, at 8:15 a.m. EST.

Before joining the D'Tigress, Jordan was a star on the court at the Worthington Johnson Athletic Center. She shined in Wallingford as she became a two-time NEPSAC Class A All-Star and the ninth player in program history to score more than 1,000 points. After graduation, she headed to the City of Brotherly Love to play for the University of Pennsylvania Quakers. There, she was a First-Team All-Ivy selection, an Academic All-Ivy selection and the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points. She finished her collegiate career at the University of Kentucky. Spending two seasons in Lexington while studying information communication technology, she appeared in 36 games, averaging nine points, six rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 51.8% from the field. In April, she was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces with the 44th pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
