How to Apply or Register

Please indicate which program you are applying for. If applying for Academic Enrichment, list the names of the courses you are most interested in and a sentence or two about your interest in them. If you intend to take courses for Choate diploma or placement credit, please notify the Registrar at registrar@choate.edu.

Please note: Course registration for Summer 2024 courses, workshops, and programs opens in February for admitted students. The courses applicants list as being of interest in their application help us understand what they are thinking of taking if admitted; the actual course registration process is a subsequent enrollment step beginning in February for students who have been accepted.

School transcripts must show the applicant’s final grades from the previous academic year (if applicable) along with this year’s courses and all available grades. If the transcript is written in a language other than English, it should be translated and signed by a school official, then uploaded as part of the school recommendation form. 

Note that in addition to the required official transcript and current grades provided by the school, applicants are also encouraged to upload copies of their unofficial transcripts and current grades.

• The School Official Recommendation form should be filled out by a school guidance counselor, registrar, or other school official (e.g. Principal, Assistant Principal, Head of School, Assistant Head of School, etc). 
• The Teacher Recommendation form should be filled out by an academic classroom teacher of English, Math, Science, History, or World Languages. If applying for Immersion Geometry, the Teacher Recommendation form should be completed by a current math teacher. 
• A Supplemental Recommendation is optional.

Applicants* must include a personal statement in response to our application prompts.

*This includes current Choate students, applicants for the academic year, and all previous Summer Programs students except those who participated in our on-campus 2023 Academic Enrichment Programs. 

Information on proficiency in English helps ensure proper placement in our programs. 

Non-native English speakers and/or students who have not been at a school where English is the primary language of instruction for at least two years are strongly encouraged to submit results from a TOEFL, TOEFL Junior, Duolingo, or comparable English Language fluency test.

The threshold for all academic programs other than the English Language Institute is a TOEFL score of 80 or above, Duolingo score of 115 or above, or TOEFL Junior score within Level 5. Applicants may upload a copy of their score report in the Summer Programs portal after submitting their Summer Programs application. Students whose scores are below our Academic Enrichment thresholds are welcome to apply for our English Language Institute.

Non-native English speakers who do not have an English Language fluency test score may still apply and are encouraged to upload through the Summer Programs Portal additional samples of their work written in English.

$100 non-refundable fee. Applications submitted without payment will not be reviewed.
