3D Animation

This course teaches the fundamentals of 3D modeling and 3D world-building using free and open-source software: Blender and Unity. Students learn 3D modeling in Blender where they create characters, props, and objects that are then used to populate a first-person navigated 3D environment built in Unity game engine. Works of art spanning the wide array of 3D genres - film, television, anime, video games, virtual reality, etc. - will be screened as examples of visual, conceptual, and narrative strategies to provide historical context and inspiration.

Note: Students do not need previous experience with animation or modeling, but be advised this is a highly technical course and requires a computer with a minimum of 8GB of RAM. Specifically, a Macbook or iMac running Mac OS X Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur; or a Windows 10 based laptop or desktop is required (a Chromebook is not suitable for this course). We recommend the computer is no older than four years. Choate provides software and licenses.
