ELL Research Skills and Public Speaking

Utilizing topics in American culture, this course introduces students to a variety of research techniques that support their academic work.

As part of the research process, students learn how to identify key words, choose credible sources, and create proper citations. Students develop their English language skills, both spoken and written, and deepen their understanding of American culture and current events while working on research projects.

Students also develop their speaking skills by studying and presenting a variety of speeches including informational, persuasive, and debate. They learn how to create and implement effective visual-aids and presentations that fit their audience and adjust to listener feedback. Through performance and observation, students become more fluent, confident, and active English speakers.
