From Athens to Washington, DC: The Evolution of Democracy

First imagined in ancient Greek city-states, democracy has evolved over the centuries into one of the most important and polarizing political ideals in the history of civilization. This course explores the earliest seeds of democracy, as well as its modern iterations. Students examine what democracy is and what democracy is not, and ultimately are better equipped to understand the government of the United States.
